This is the map project I created that focuses on the environmental background design aspect of animation. Here I wanted to create a layout of multiple layouts that either I have created, or highly known backgrounds used in famous animated films. I wanted to connect these images and create a map that ties in different styles of artistic background layouts. In this project, I wanted to combine both elements of an illustrative, and digital medium. By presenting incomplete sketches and rough drawings, I wanted to highlight the ideas that are processed in the animator's mind. Sketches and rough drafts give out a different side to the art that cannot be consumed by seeing the complete work. Here you see a pool of ideas that have been pondering in my head as an artist. But by drawing in aspects of the mapping side of the project, I wanted to draw in works from other artists and create this map that tracks the ideas that form in our minds. In terms of my research, the map project helps me visualize what goes on in the creative process of creating these animations. These environmental layouts play a huge role in these films as they utilize the character's actions, and the background they are in. By seeing different styles of animated art pooled into one medium spouts into perspective of how similar they in terms of how they easily interact with one another. The background is how these character interact with their given enviroment, so I wanted to understand how these backgrounds become more engaging with their audience.

In order to make this project come to life, I created some cutout sketches of characters ranging from a diverse set of styles from both western and Eastern art.

To complete this project, I had cut out my character sketches from my archival project, and had them laid out as an interactive piece. I wanted the audience to move around these characters to see how they can get visually drawn to different matches.
